With the generous support of the Newcastle Unversity Institute for Creative Arts Practice (NICAP), we present an innovatve poetry/art collaboration between Newcastle Poetry Festival and the Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums Trust. As part of the festival, eight poets have written poems in response to the major Sean Scully Retrospective co-hosted by the Hatton and Laing Galleries (February – May 2018). Some of the poets involved, including Ian Duhig, Sasha Dugdale, Imtiaz Dharker, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Sean O’Brien and Degna Stone, will be reading their poems against a backdrop of Scully’s paintings. The commissioned poems will be published in a specially-produced pamphlet and via the Crossings mobile app which allows visitors to read and listen to the poems while viewing the artworks in situ.
This event will also see the launch of Waves and Bones, a poetry project sponsored by the Northumberland Coast Area of Natural Beauty Partnership. A group of poets visited sites on the Northumbrian Coast to be inspired by relics and stories of pilgrimage. The result is a video and photography collage created by artist Phyllis Christopher which includes readings of the poems. Poets involved in the project are Linda Anderson, John Challis, Christy Ducker, Linda France, Cynthia Fuller, Kris Johnson, Peter Hebden, Lisa Matthews, Theresa Muñoz and David Spittle.
We gratefully acknowledge support for this event from the Newcastle Institute for Creative Practice, Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums Trust and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty PartnershipBook Tickets
