This evening’s reading presents three internationally acclaimed poets whose diasporic work is central to British literature. Grace Nichols’ most recent collection Passport To Here and There captures a journey that moves from coastal memories of a Guyana childhood to life in her adoptive Sussex landscape (Bloodaxe, 2020). John Agard’s ninth collection Border Zone (Bloodaxe, 2022) artfully explores British and Caribbean transatlantic intersections, and the poems include voices of photographers, philosophers and travellers. Imtiaz Dharker most recent collection Luck is the Hook (Bloodaxe, 2018) travels across Scotland, Wales and India and her graceful poetry explores the difficult experiences of exile, displacement and grief.
