After a two-year hiatus, the Newcastle Poetry Festival is back celebrating the very best in poetry. This year’s theme is EMERGENCY. Join us for exclusive readings by world-class poets, workshops with award-winning writers, performances from spoken word artists, open mic events, and the Emergency Poetry Summit where poets, publishers, producers and readers will come together to celebrate resilience and make the case for hope.

Featuring live in-person readings from the UK Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage; the 2021 Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry winner, Grace Nichols; Hannah Lowe, author of The Kids and winner of the Costa Book of the Year Award; former UK slam champion and winner of the 2021 T.S. Eliot Prize, Joelle Taylor;  Scotland’s Makar, Kathleen Jamie; online readings from Eve Joseph and Billy-Ray Belcourt, Canadian winners of the 2018 & 2019 Griffin Poetry Prizes; and ‘In The Poet’s Chair’ with celebrated poet and novelist, Jackie Kay, in conversation with Roger Robinson, winner of the 2019 T.S.
