Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts (NCLA) is pleased to present ‘Inside Writing’: a digital poetry festival in lieu of the annual Newcastle Poetry Festival. Throughout May, June and July, NCLA will host a series of digital poetry events over Twitter and Facebook featuring some of today’s most exciting poets responding to the COVID-19 crisis by performing new work, issuing challenges and writing prompts, and discussing how their writing lives have been affected, featuring Inua Ellams, Sasha Dugdale, Rishi Dastidar, Carolyn Forché, W.N. Herbert, Jackie Kay, Will Harris, Imtiaz Dharker, and Sean O’Brien.
As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 Health Emergency, Fault Lines: Newcastle Poetry Festival 2020 will no longer be taking place between May 13th and May 16th2020. All our participants and partners have been informed. Though we are currently looking to reschedule the Festival, we are unable to make any precise commitments at this point given the fluid and escalating nature of the international situation, though we will keep you informed about future developments as soon as we are in a position to do so.
Over the next weeks and months, and in association with our partners, the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts will instead be offering a range of interactive digital poetry events, from workshops and podcasts, to readings and films, so we can stay in touch and be inspired, creating, promoting and celebrating the art and power of poetry at a time of unprecedented disruption and anxiety.
In the meantime, we send our best wishes, and look forward to welcoming you to Newcastle once this current crisis has passed.
