Breaking down stereotypes through poetry
Stereotypes exist everywhere we look. In the way we name people and places, in the purchase of ready-made language, themes and forms. In this 21st century, how do we advocate change and equality through our writing? What language do we claim to capture this unprecedented reality, free up our imagination? Are there ways we can find a writing voice, where we feel welcome and not constantly judged?
In this workshop we will explore with poetic forms such as multilingual poetry and found poetry, find ways of playing with language(s) to engage with or understand our complex interiority and layers of identity, and to undo assumptions of stereotypes and power hierarchies.
